Who we are and what we do

Cannington Enterprises Ltd is based at Swang Farm and has been in the Roe family since 1914.

Various farming practices have been carried out at Swang Farm for the best part of 100 years, however, it was during the 80s and 90s when the farm developed into growing, packing and processing potatoes for onward selling and cold storage facilities were formed.

In 1997 the company discontinued the potato aspect of the business and moved into storing cheese in the chilled storage facilities. What started with a small quantity of locally grown cheese quickly grew to over 3000 pallets.

It was during this time that the company began working with Gerber Juice Ltd which led to a long standing working relationship that we are proud to say still exists today. The Directors - Tim Row and Mike Row Eventually Swang Farm was separated from what became Cannington Cold Stores and the family began to look at ways to diversify.

Agricultural contracting was undertaken for Swang Farm and a large amount of organic waste products were converted into fertiliser and restored to the land.

Rising energy costs in the UK led to the Roe's wondering how they could harness natural energy in light of their fuel bills making up a massive 22% of their outlay!

This started the family on a journey which has led them to creating electricity through Anaerobic Digestion and a company named Cannington Bio Energy.

Situated on the same site as Cannington Cold Stores, Cannington Bio Energy is unique in the fact that it generates electricity from both agricultural crops and food waste.

During this time Cannington Cold Stores has created a reputable company offering a reliable and bespoke service for companies such as North Downs Dairy Co Ltd, AJ and RG Barber, Yeo Valley Organic, GlaxoSmithKline and many others.

The newest arm of an expanding portfolio of services is Cannington Recycling Services which is dedicated to developing the process of turning waste back into agricultural land as fertiliser.
